i just mounted a hurst shifter on my a833 tranny.
i used a 1/4in drill to align the three shift levers in neutral.
i made sure the tranny was in neutral.
i hooked up the linkage.
the result is that i can get all fwd gears but no reverse.
i tried all the quadrants.
tried pushing down and all the quadrants.

I am far from a expert, But did have the same type of problem with my Muncie 4speed and a Summit shifter. I had no luck when I lined up the levers with the 1/4in tool they provided. What I did was to turn the adjusting sleeve on the reverse shift rod to make it longer, a turn at a time, till reverse would engage.(makes the rod longer and pushes the lever more) Good Luck!

I have been fooling with Hurst shifters for 50 years. Aligning with a bit is a starting point with. Then you have to play with until you get it right.

guys,
i started over and made sure that the drill stayed "plumb" while i adjusted the linkage rods.
i found that there is very little room for error for everything to be in neutral.
once i redid the adjustment making sure the drill would slide in and out after each rod was adjusted i got reverse.

also i found some info on an oldsmobile forum that explains how to remove the stick.
it worked perfect
