It is a 1956 2nd 3100 and the question that I have right now is...I have the original headlights with wiring and they are in excellent shape. There are three wires coming out of the back of each one brown, black, and green. Which one is which?
I'm also interested in any kind of blogs, diagrams, photos, etc of wiring (esp. original ignition switch and headlight switch). I'm learning and I know that I have a learning curve ahead of me.

I downloaded, blew up to 11x17, and laminated a diagram just this week. Or find the old car manual project. It has a section by section scan of the Factory Service Manual. | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 566 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 566 | Here is a little sheet I made for my 1956 Chevy 3100 It has the wiring colors and gauge. There maybe be some errors I hope not Its what I created after studying the wiring diagram. I also have a PDF file of the wiring diagram just email me and I will send it to you.

I'm just now starting to jump on the wiring. This forum has been the greatest!!!
Now, another question. The truck had an alternator in it when I got it with no wiring. I'm not certain of the make or model but it has a 2-spade plug on the side and a terminal in the back. I'm reading a lot about wiring and diagrams. Do I need a regulator of some sort somewhere?

I'm SO lost when it comes to wiring. I have a Hot Rod Wires wiring harness and am trying to figure this thing out. All the wiring diagrams I have are with the generator, not an alternator. http://s1109.photobucket.com/user/s...roject/IMG_0693.jpg.html?sort=2&o=38

There are a few ways to do this, not knowing what your wiring harness is or how it's marked, I'll basic rundown of one way to do it. There will be 3 wires, a big 10 gauge that is red in color from the battery that connects to the back of the alt. on that stud, you can also loop the small red wire from the plug on the alt. to that stud. the white wire will need to go to the ignition switch, this excites the alt. when you startup and disconnects it when you turn engine off. If the white wire is in the wrong place the engine will continue to run when you turn the key off.
The best thing for you to do would be to contact the wireing harness manufacurer and tell them what you want to do, I'm sure they will be able to guide you through this.
