I've been working on a 1958 Chevy Apache for the last 8 years. With the help of family, friends, and the stovebolt forums, it has gone from basketcase to a nice daily driver candidate. So this is where I am. I was blessed to have a friend donate a rebuilt 1961 235 to the project. So while we were at it, we decided to add in an automatic transmission. I picked up a used 2004R transmission and had it installed by a friend of mine. It functions pretty well but has a hard time figuring out to stay in overdrive or drop back down to 3rd. Has anyone figured out a setup for the tv cable to a 235 inline that functions well? Any help is appreciated. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 217 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 217 | Cable kits from Bowtie Overdrive might help but they can try your patience install and adjusting them. Was for me on a Corvette install. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | This was the set up I used with a TH350. I recently changed to a 200R4 and only needed to modify it slightly. Pic #1 Pic #2 Pic#3I mounted a second bell-crank behind the front (throttle) one to operate the TV cable

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks. Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.
As of 10-26-2022, A 55.2 Taskforce long bed now the work begins

There are different governor gears available too. Or change the weights in the governor. Another is to play with the adjustment on the cable some, but best done with a pressure gauge on the transmission since the cable helps control the pressures inside the transmission.

I have heard others are made of aluminum and have an issue keeping the starter inline.

I've got a 700R4 in my 37 pickup and it does "OK" but not like I want it. I spent about and hour up and down the roads moving the cable a "TAT" at a time until I got it to where I'm happy with it. Tomorrow I will pick up my rebuilt 700R4 to replace the 350 in my 52 Panel. I've read the information at Bowtie Overdrives a dozen times and have decided to give it a try. I already have the kit so when it quits raining I may decide to change them out in the next week or two. For those that would like to read what Bowtie Overdrives says read here.. http://www.tvmadeez.com/ez_solution.phpI thought it just a little pricey at 130.00 but I'm willing to give it a try.... maybe I'll learn something new. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 31 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 31 | Sorry for the delay in getting back, but my work situation has been really crazy. So, yes we did pick up the adapter from Buffalo Enterprises and the install was pretty straight forward. I am familiar with bowtie overdrive, in fact we used their relay in the install. I thought about picking up their tv cable setup but figured that we could get the factory cable to work. I figure their may be some more adjusting in the works. We attached the cable end to the throttle rod. Any ideas as to where the cable can be mounted? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 31 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 31 | Thanks for the advice and comments fellas! I spent the larger part of the day yesterday making adjustments. Got to where the transmission was shifting really well from 1st-3rd, struggled a bit to get to overdrive. Then it kind of re-adjusted itself to where it wouldn't get out if 1st. I hope that the tranny isn't ruined...Any ideas? | | |
