I'm trying to figure out the driveline in my new to me 53 Chevy 3100.

I went to grease and check all the levels as well as document the parts. I found I have a drive shaft with two universals with grease fittings rather than a torque tube. As Hotrod Lincoln pointed out I've had some major modification done. Now to figure out exactly what I have!

I've got a Rogers rebuilt 216 powering the truck and the following ;

Transmission serial. CBJ 105999. The casting says GM 48
Rear End. HA 0225

Anyone have any idea of what year and what vehicle they came out of ?

Hy Dck54, for me pictures would be easier to identify than casting numbers.

Shop shark. Here is a link to some pics. I noticed I don't have a rear transmission support. Looks like I need that as well as a lower flywheel cover

Can't really tell from the pictures, but, if your engine is supported at the front of the engine and at the bell housing,you're okay. If your engine is supported mid-block and nothing else, you need a rear transmission support.

Hy Dck54, the transmission looks like a fully synchronized Saginaw three speed from a mid sixties up GM car or truck. The rear axle is a "twelve bolt" GM originally from a coil sprung truck I believe. There really is no need to support the back of the transmission with this setup, unless you experience a vibration when driving, hope that helps.
