For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 6 | Hi everyone,
I have a '63 3/4 ton and a '63 1 ton.
My plan is to combine both trucks and put either a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton 4x4 frame underneath.
The information I need the most right now is which years is a frame a direct swap with no fabrication.
I know that with the '73 - 87'(I believe) the frame raises up where the cab mounts and you have to do some cutting and fabrication. I don't really want to do that much work.
My next question is, if I do have to go the fabrication route. How hard is it? Has anyone done it? Does anyone have a tutorial or steps to follow?
Another question, if I stick with 2WD, is it super difficult to switch from 8 bolt axles to 6 bolt? Perhaps from a 90s C/K?
Sorry for all the questions but I would like to gather parts during the winter when people are just looking to basically throw them away.

That's a bunch of work, especially for a fella that doesn't want to do a bunch of fabrication. The frame and suspension on your '63 can simply be re-built. It's a ladder style frame, no reason not to use it. At least that's my take... | | | | | Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 6 | Neither of the trucks are 4x4 and from what I understand, that's the cheapest andeasiest route to go to make one. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 788 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 788 | still easier to make a 4 x 4 out of the earlier frame and you don't have to alter a frame for the right w/base. whatever way that you do it make sure that it is legal when you are done

A '63-'66 K10 or K20 rolling chassis, is the easiest, requiring the least amount of fabrication.
