I said in another post weeks ago that I checked everything I knew might cause backfiring and concluded that the problem was not electrical. (wrong, never assume, I know better now) I had replaced the spark plugs and wires checked the distributer and still had a problem. Thanks for all the tips from you guys. The weather in the Nor'east got too cold to work outside so I consulted a knowlegable friend. Put in (indoors)new distributer cap, rotor, points and condenser inc. new vacuum advance and away she went. It seems that one cylender was not firing for some reason but now I'm on the road again. Later I'll look into putting in a HEI. Any suggestions as to what would be best for a 350 ci?

You can go to any FLAPS and get an aftermarket HEI (like Accel) to drop in to your 350 or go to a salvage yard and get one off a later 350. Not sure when they started using them, somewhere in the early 70's? | | |

If the advance mech. is wore out you can get a kit & o-haul it. Or just clean it all up & lube the mech. Make shure the vacuum advance is working or you may want to get an adjustable one & taylor it to your engine. If you have a 55-2 to 59 there inn,t any clearance at the firewall unless you take a hammer to it (the firewall). I put a Crane conversion kit in those models.

Have a lot of things lined up to do on the truck when the weather gets a little better. I'm sure it's the same for all of us in the frozen climates and that's not just north anymore.
