Ok I have a rookie question, I installed the back glass in my truck and it is proving to be impossible to get the lock ring in the rubber seal. I have the lock ring side of the gasket on the outside of the truck, is that supposed to be on the inside or out? Is there a trick to installing the lock ring?

yes, the lock is on the outside ... it can be a job to get in, particularly if it's a poor quality rubber or if the glass is a fraction oversize - there is a tool made for the job that's helpful, which should be available at any FLAPS - a wipe of liquid soap in the groove can help too
