on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 36 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 36 | I removed my front windshield assembly and attempted to disassemble the frame. With my luck all the screws snapped off and the center v supports were rusted in and broke apart. What a job it was to remove the glass. I was able to save the vertical piece in the center and made new v brackets that slip in the frames. My question is do the parts suppliers offer the gaskets that hold the glass in the frame? Also kind of confused as to what outer gasket to get. I think they sell a one piece gasket, but not sure how you can put the frame together and get the new outer gasket in at the same time if it is one piece. Can some one who has replaced there glass give me some pointers? Thanks guys Tom | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 775 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 775 | The glass can be set with glass setting tape. I would recommend you use the urethane glass caulking. The urethane is more work it takes two days as you calk one side then let it set for aday then do the other side. You have mask everything. Auto glass stores sell both. Use the single piece gasket from steel rubber co. Ask them for the calking that seals the rubber to the frame. You can work the rubber flange into theframe with nylon putty knife. I think I spelled steel wrong. I give you a step by step if you want it. I used the urethane because it will not leak. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | | | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 36 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 36 | Thanks guys I appreciate the info. I used the vulcanized windshield gasket from Steele Rubber, and I was very pleased with the fit and fitness of the part. As with everything related to those darn windshields, installation needs to be done when you are in a very calm and patient mood. It also helps if you have a helper hold the windshield assembly while you work the gasket into the groove. I used a little glass cleaner as a lubricant while working the gasket into the groove.

Tom | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 775 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 775 | If you use urethane windshield caulk I spaced the glass from the frame with small pieces of the setting tape (in the bottom of the channel). I then spaced the glass from the side I was not caulking so the glass was centered. Then masked the frame and glass and caulked the gap. Don't set the complete glass in the caulking or you will never be able to remove it if it gets broken. Then let dry 24hours and flip over and caulk the other side. Make sure you seal around the center strip too. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 36 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 36 | The glass in mine was tinted Green. Did they have green tint originally or do you guys think they were replaced sometime?

I've got one of these windshields on my to do list as well, so I'm watching this topic and considering all of the advice. GWW, when you say "Don't set the complete glass in the caulking" do you mean not to fill the channel with urethane and set the pane in all at once. Is it that when you do the sides separately as you recommend the edge of the glass will remain free of the caulk? Just trying to get that in my head. Thanks guys. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 36 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 36 | Got my windshield done today. I took the old glass and the frame to my friend who has a window glass business. He cut new glass and installed it in the frame. It looks great! I took it home and installed the rubber seal. Now I have to put it on the truck.
Thanks for all the help guys! Its greatly appreciated!! Tom | | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 36 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 36 |

Thanks for the heads up Tiny. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 775 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 775 | When I spoke to the glass people they warned me against filling the channel with Urethane because you can never get the glass out. So I put 1/16 inch setting tape in the frame in the bottom of the groove. Then spaced the glass so it has an even gap each side of the frame and calked one side and let it set overnight then the other side.
