Well I got my carb parts and fuel pump yesterday and put them on-primed it one more time to save the starter and fired it up. sure runs better with a clean carb, fresh fuel and cleaned and gapped plugs. the old 305 sounds good. long way to go before it's ready to get an inspection sticker on and drive on the road but got new brake drums and shoes coming in today.getting it where it will stop could be important. one thing I haven't located that I need is a front wheel hub cap. on my 61 GMC 1000 I measured about 2.075" I.D. on it. there is an original on one side but missing the right one.I wonder if the local GM dealer might actually be able to get me one?

Dealers and parts people only know VIN info, so, take that with you, probably won't have one, anyway. Put on your parts scrounging list.

Installed power brite inverter and Dual battery controller
projecta on the retro Good Humor Icecream truck.Had to make a special plateform for the unit. There is no blue print for
these trucks. I had to use old pictures and up grade to the
12 volt system and wire it myself throughout and make it clean looking. The Aux battery is located on the fire wall.

Started on the '41 project and I have been meaning to make some posts, but have been just so busy. Anyway I've got it all stripped down to the frame. The next step is channeling the front frame and adding the IFS. Here's the progress so far....

Finally got the windshield and back glass in!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ajporsche/10955278574/

I got the stainless surround trim from a fellow Bolter here, Neil, and it just looks awesome. I'm going to take it out on the main roads this weekend. It'll be it's first real drive on the road in over 15 years. I think I'm ready, just worried something will go wrong. I've spent all this time working on this thing, and have never really driven it. I'm sure it'll be fun, wish me luck!

Worked on the front springs, when I took them apart to clean them up and put in teflon I never put the clamps back on so they went on today. The tube shocks were rubbing so I need to add some spacers behind the brackets so that is tomorrows job and then on the replacing the master cylinder.

Found the rattle,it was a loose shock bracket. I bought the conversion kit from Jim Carters and it was not really designed for a 37 and the shocks were too long so I made brackets to extend the brackets so I am going to see if I can find shorter shocks.

Took it for a test drive today and the loose bracket was definately the source of the rattle,I removed the floor so I can replace the master cylinder and while I have the floor out I will also replace the battery since its almost 6 years old.

Got the new master cylinder in the 37 tonight and was going to take the battery out of another vehicle so I could install the floor and call the 37 done but the battery was too big,so now I am going to price a new battery for the 37. When I installed the T-5 I had to make the battery box smaller and could only use a group 51 battery which is for a Honda Civic, even a decent battery at the parts stores are around a hundred so I think I can get one from Rural king for a little less so it will be this weekend before I will finish the 37.

Installed a new fuel sender. Gauge problem solved. Tried to see what I could do about the lousy drivers door aftermarket latch. No go. Repaired the bad ground in the left rear turn signal. Installed the gasket properly in the cowl vent. Hopefully no more leaks.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend my son and I went out to the farm and washed and packed up all the pieces/parts for the 1950 3100 hot rod project. We got it ready to haul home in the spring to begin work on it. The 1974 4 bolt main 350 still turns easily by hand (been sitting in the building for 17 years waiting).

It is a hot rod project I picked up in 95 and never really did anything with. It will be fun to build it with my son, it already had a 69 camaro subframe welded in when I got it so there is no concern to keep it original. My son and I will be able to go wild modifying this thing without having to feel bad smile. We will keep the 50 panel and the old 49 3/4 ton all original when this one is done.

When I put it on the trailer and pull it down in the spring I will take some pictures. Did not have time over the weekend.

Too many projects not enough time.

I had not drove the gmc since last Sunday, so at lunchtime yesterday, with the temperature at -3, and about 6 inches of snow on it, I attempted to start her up. No problems, had a lot of looks while I went for a drive around town. Lots of folks having trouble with our first taste of cold.

Removed the angle strip on one side of the bed. Did the other yesterday. Have to agree with GMJagger that it is a pain. On the first one I hand sanded the strip since there were a couple of old coats of paint and hard to tell where the spot welds were. On the one today I used one of those plastic type stripping wheels with the drill. That worked well because in addition to being able to feel the dimple since most of the paint was taken off, but it didn't remove all the paint in the dimple. Kind of like spraying a guide coat when doing body work. The dimples of the spot weld showed up nicely. Then hit it with the spot weld drill.

Good work there John. Looks like a Heidts.

Take note fella Bolters: If you profit from these pics or any other pictures posted on this website just remember to pass on your experiences, successes or failures as you maneuver through the process of Boltism. I know some of you don't have a camera and some may not even know how to spell camera and that's OK. I have found a camera to be as important in reconstruction as my ball-pein hammer was in destruction. Share the love---share the pics.

Was looking under the hood of my '55 2nd 3100, admiring my handiwork, when I noticed the alternator was hanging at a funny angle. Seems the long 3/8 pivot bolt had snapped off back inside the head. Im thinkin that I am pretty much SOL, no room to get a drill anywhere near enough to drill for a easy out, without taking half the front end off. Just for giggles I squirt some penetrating oil on the bolt fragment, which has broken off about 1/8in back in the hole. I take a screwdriver and start turning it in the hole, not really thinking that this is going to work. Darn if that thing doesn't look like it is closer to the surface now? Grab the broken bolt and stick it in the hole, and turn the broken part right on out! Maybe I need to head to Vegas?

I am finally installing my dual action fuel pump with all new lines for vacuum , fuel to carb and back to the tank and distributor advance. Next is to give it a service, check valve setting, change oil and filter, grease all frame points, do a nuts and bolts check on the new box that was installed 2 years ago,( I have been hearing a rattle from the back of the truck) clean and set points and check timing. Adjust fan belt, a little loose, oil generator caps, repack distributor grease packing cap, check rear end oil, ect.
