I am trying to find a newer rear end with axles for a 1957 lcf f350 series 2 ton. Will a c50 rear end fit and is it a single speed axle or is it 2speed?This is not my truck but I am helping a friend of mine but really want to upgrade to a newer rear end with duals to pull a 12,500 pound sailboat.GVW says 19,500lbs if I understood him correctly. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

What is wrong with the rear in the LCF A C50 may well have the same rear. If you are replacing a single speed with a 2 speed, you will have to do the plumbing, but it will work.

The present rear end is a 2 speed with no axles and the pinion is wasted as well as the bearing,WHAT IS LEFT OF THE BEARING WAS IN THE HOUSING!!This is not my truck but belongs to a friend of mine. This truck was bought as is and has the rocket hood emblem and the gmc 350 logo on front.Just want to know what aftermarket rear will fit.Is a c50 a 2 speed axle? This truck has a factory 347 Pontiac 5 speed trans and would very much like to know from you guys what can be done to make this doable. Open for suggestions!! If you have a C50 rear located, I would take a tape measure to it. I would bet it would be real close. Also check the rear GVW on both trucks.

What year C-50? I'm PRETTY sure that the '50's were classified as a "light" 2-ton,(16,000#G.V.W.),as the '60's were classified as "heavy" 2-tons,(18,000#G.V.W.) (1955 T.F. Data).I'd think that the'50's were mostly,if not all,equipped with a 2-speed axle.Not sure if rear-end gears changed,when G.M. progressed away from the "bulletproof" SM420,to accomodate the "newer" big trucks,with the 350,366,396 and 427's. WAY more "horses" than our A.D.,and T.F. trucks! A mid '60's,(and up)? may have taller gears,but I'm GUESSING.Not sure what differences there were in the transmissions,either. I DO know that I drove a '69 C50,(with a 350/650 C.F.M. Quadrojet/4-speed/2-speed,and it would cruise at 65.And it was a moving van,with the "Granny's Attic"style box!! E.W.:11,500 G.V.W.:18,500

My buddy has a later model F250-350 that is going to get scrapped and has DISC brakes! I'll be over there in the next few days, and can get you pics.

Bikeman- - - -do you ever check your private messages? I have a complete 2-speed axle that sounds identical to the one you're describing. How many lug bolts do the wheels have?
