i am a new member long time viewer though so bear with me a little but i am having the notorious rear brake woes on this truck. i have seen that some people are converting the front to the newer bendix off a 53 gmc you just need the backing plates and enlarge the holes. Does that also work for the rear? if so where is the best place to get backing plates i havent found any. I wouldnt mind using the original huck brake system but i of course cant find any drums. i dont plan on driving it a whole lot and wont be in the city i am doing the dual master conversion as well. any help would be much appreciated i just want to drive this sexy beast

As you have found, you can't find Huck brake drums easily.

Here's a tech tip that explains what to do:

Although not exactly applicable, there might be a tip or two in here you could adapt to your situation:

The other option is to go to open drive line which then opens up a world of possibilities. I have an '83 Firebird disk brake setup with a 3.73 limited slip rear.

Thanks for quick response looks like a 55 axle assm. Would be great idea now I just need to find a cheap one. I do have a 1990 firebird v6 open rear parts car but if it works it would be free my favorite price. I think mine has coil springs did you have to weld on perches? Is it a good width?

I was in the same position only a few weeks ago. I posted a wanted on here and I had 3 or 4 people PM me with offers of drums, for not a lot of cash. All on your side of the pond.

So I found a frame on here for a 51 Chevy 3600 damaged but the brakes and axles are suppose to be good have a long haul to get it though I am pretty sure the frames and axles are the same but before I do this journey I would like someone to verify that is is in fact the same parts.... thanks
Alex
