Ready to put my overdrive cable in. The t-handle will mount under the dash to the right of the column. What i need to know is how to route the cable. ie, through the firewall in one of the grommet holes then where and how many brakets to hold it. Also how does it connect to the transmission itself. There is a hole in the lever on the side of the tranny. How does it connect to the lever. I'm guessing a part is missing. I have the bracket on the solinoid but that is it.

it's in a 53 3100. the tranny is out of a 55 chevy car. 3 speed with o.d.

Since a 53 didn't come with an OD there is no factory routing. Route it in the most direct position so it is not kinked. You may need to drill a hole in the firewall if there is not one in the optimum location. The bracket below the solenoid holds the housing in place like a choke cable and the center part is secured in the drilled bolt on the arm. You may need to fabricate a bolt with a sleeve for the arm.

basham, I have the same 55 od trany, have not attempted to rebuild it. Did you have to rebuild yours and if so how'd that go?

Gentle bends are the order of the day, three places in all to affix the cable, the dash, beneath the solenoid, and the cable itself to a cable stop on the OD lock-out. A suitable bolt, a couple nylon washers, two steel washers to capture the cable, a regular nut and a nyloc nut is what I used to make a serviceable replacement that worked beautifully in a daily driver for ten years. Good luck, you can do this.

thanks for the info. one last question. I don't have a bracket to mount it under the dash. Is this something i'll have to make or is there something out there i could use. If i had an extra ebrake bracket that would work but i don't so any ideas. AS far as rebuilding it didn't. The guy i bought if from said the guy he bought if from had it rebuilt, it was very clean inside and out so I just have my fingers crossed.

Use a hole in the dash or it's 90 degree angle iron time (make your own). Read as much as you can in regards to the od operation, are you using the governor?

I made my own bracket from angle iron.

Ok. i'll make one tomorrow. As far as hooking everything up i'm just not sure. Been reading posts on here and some do it one way others do it another way. I just want it to work with no problems. The factory method is probably the best way to go but am still unsure of it. I have no experience with this type of tranny. Open to suggestions. I am using a zenith carb and can't see how i'll mount a kick down to it. I was thinking of putting it under the pedal.

I used a DPDT toggle switch for a kickdown switch, mounted under the dash.

How I wired it.

The factory kick down switch is mounted on a bracket held down by the carb mounting bolt. There is also a tab welded to the accelerator rod that actuates the switch. The type of carb should not be an issue. Ford uses a switch mounted under the floor.
