Block number "3769716" and date number is " G 6 1 "[ July 6, 1961 ] and stamp next to distributor is "F0707J" and no other digits. F is for Flint but what is the "0707J'" all about? Would this have been a new engine from a Chev or other GM dealer directly from Chevrolet? Bill

F 0707 J (this code pattern was used from 57-63)

F= Flint, MI plant

07 = July
07 = 7th

J = 3100-3200-3800 1958-63(?) trucks with regular production engine/transmission

J - 3400-3500-3700 1957 trucks

Thanks, with the date casting on the block, [G-6-1] it must be out of a '61 or '62 3100, 3200, or 3800 truck, correct?

Bill,

I guess the same as you. It could be 1961, but that would be one day after casting (I think - I might be decoding incorrectly).

The other puzzler is the lack of other numbers in normal serial numbers preceeding these 6 digits. Its not a big deal, just curious. Thanks.
