HI Group I got a new short water pump for Patricks now my fan does not fit Does any one know the part # and picture of this one that fits the new water pump. I think it is a 4 blade one. The mounting hole distance measured across the center hole center to center needs to be 1 3/8 for mine Please help Gerry

You r right in that it is a four blade. I dont have the part number available right now but patricks also carries the fan needed for your application. They will send you the catalog that handles the short pump and fan.

The one Jim Carter sells is the stock 216 fan. I use it on my 261's with no problems at all. If you have an old 216 lying around, problem solved.

216 fans will not work with Patrick's short shaft pump. 216 fans have a different bolt spacing and a 1" center hole. The fan that fits started in 1955 for pass and 1955 2nd on trucks.

My problem was that short shaft pump made the fan hit the balancer and lower position it hits bottom radiator connection.
First I added a spacer to move the fan forward to clear the balancer and smaller diameter to miss the rad. connection. I used a 15" flex fan from Summit.

Patricks is full of great advise. Call Patrick 520-836-1117 and explain the problem. Patrick helped me solve my water pump, fan and cooling problems on my 261.

I meet Patrick and his wife Danese in there shop 3 weeks ago and they helping we with all my questions to restore my engine. I think the best way is to mail Danese Dykes ([email protected]) and ask her. They have a short blue catalog and i think i remember me there is a special fan on the short pump you can order! Or you can look online in the catalog, go on the Homepage.
If you need more help i can check my copie and try to find the partnumber.

This problem comes up a lot. The 216 had the water pump up high on the block. The 235 put the pump down quite a ways and forward too. I have not worked on a 261 so I don't know for sure but the pictures look a lot like a 235. So what happens to most of us when we put a 235 into the space that a 216 lived in is just as you have described. I moved the radiator forward to inside the support and I moved it down a bit as well. Then I put on an RV type fan cause it would clear the radiator and miss the lower hose. I think mine was a 15 inch fan. One of the guys on this site makes a kit that will re position the 216 pump on a 235 and keep it up and close to the motor. He also knows what pulley to use and has a bunch of knowledge about the issue you are trying to fix. I think that Patrick's has a kit as well. As you can tell there are more than one solution to the problem. et us know what you do and how it works for you.

Look at Pre 68 Dave's site for more information. He has as good a fix as have seen and knows what you will need.

I used Pre68 Daves relocation plate and it works very well. I feared drilling into the block but one day, after drinking a few cans of courage, grabbed the drill, took deep breath drilled, tapped and mounted the 216 water pump on my new 235 block. installed 216 fan and have NOT regretted it since. My cooling temp does not exceed the 180 degree thermostat installed even after driving the engine very hard in 95 degree weather. Jerry
