I am lucky to have a Watson 46 aux trans. I had the bearings replaced and seals replaced, but the thing still doesnt sound right to me. Its extremely loud in overdrive, and it definitely changes pitch based on load/rpm.
Is there anybody out there who knows these things really well? I dont know if there is end play or even if the gears are wearing out.
any help would be much appreciated.
note , im willing to ship it for repair, I live in hayward ca, but its rare enough that I want it fixed properly.

Do you have a spare transmission for parts? If you don't have or can't find parts there's no need to send it out for a rebuild.. Unless you're up for having gears custom made?
Old auxiliary transmissions made some noise to start with, yours may still have issues but they were never silent. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,875 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,875 | Did you replace the needle bearings or bushings that the gears ride on? Just changing the input and output ball or roller bearings probably won't quiet things down if the gears are wobbling around on worn-out needle bearings. Jerry
