Hey All

I am lucky to have a Watson 46 aux trans.
I had the bearings replaced and seals replaced, but the thing still doesnt sound right to me. Its extremely loud in overdrive, and it definitely changes pitch based on load/rpm.

Is there anybody out there who knows these things really well? I dont know if there is end play or even if the gears are wearing out.

any help would be much appreciated.

note , im willing to ship it for repair, I live in hayward ca, but its rare enough that I want it fixed properly.

thanks in advance

If gears do turn out to be worn then what will you do? Very unlikely to find new ones. Do you have a spare transmission for parts?
If you don't have or can't find parts there's no need to send it out for a rebuild.. Unless you're up for having gears custom made?

Old auxiliary transmissions made some noise to start with, yours may still have issues but they were never silent.

Did you replace the needle bearings or bushings that the gears ride on? Just changing the input and output ball or roller bearings probably won't quiet things down if the gears are wobbling around on worn-out needle bearings.

What type gears does it have, straight of helical? Straight cut gears always make more noise, they kind of sound like a blower when running at high rpm (high pitch whine).
