Can anyone tell me if the ohm resistance for 1960-1966 is 0-30 for the fuel gauge.

Hy chopperguy16, I know they changed the sender and gauge from a 0 - 30 ohms to a 0 - 90 ohms somewhere in the 1960s. Classic Industries website lists 1964 and older as 0-30 ohms, and 1966 and newer as 0-90 ohms (I guess the 1965 vehicles didn't have fuel gauges). I did try looking in the parts book to pin down the year they changed, but with all the different models, each with their own sender I just got a headache, hope that info helps some.

Hi y'all. After finding bad fuel full of sediment downstream of the fuel pump on a '66/292 that I have owned for 15 years, I yanked the tank and found a very small leak in one of the corners, and a corroded sending unit. The gage has never worked. My mechanic tells me he could etch and seal the inside. The chemicals for this are $120 but he has chemicals from another tank. I found a replacement tank at Classic Industries for $150. I am wondering if anyone has experience with sealing the inside. I did a similar operation on a hypolon inflatable raft years ago and thought it worked well. Also, is the a visible difference between the 30 and 90 ohms sending unit. The replacement sending unit on websites is described as the 0-30 ohms. Thanks for the help.

If a replacement tank is only $150, that is by far better. you will "mess" around with that tank, they will mess around with it and you will never know if all leaks are fixed and if they just coated over some rust/varnish. Subtract what they will charge from $150, that's your decision number. Three different vendor websites indicate 30 Ohm up thru 66. One site says ...."and some 67". If you buy one for a 1966 and it does not work, they will take it back because you did nothing wrong as long as gauge is original or equiv.

Thanks for the help. Once I put the tank in my basket, it went from available to out of stock. I'll get the 30 ohm sending unit and look for a tank thru the weekend. If I don't find one, I will give the chemicals a try.

There are other vendors who do have the tanks at that price. Like Classic Parts of America, a sponsor here. Shipping is about $50.
