Then I find to get the speedo to work I will have to spend another $3 to 4 hundred dollars (convert the signal. So now my next question is how do i get the oil pressure to work? I know the old style had a tube running the oil pressure to the gauge, so where do I run the tube from on an ls-1 engine? love the look of the gauges and will keep them just did not do my homework before hand. Also I'm not an engine guru so this may be a simple fix i don't know ?? | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | If I understand correctly you are running a Chevy LS-1 engine with a new set of stock gauges? If so, you may be able to tap into wherever the original LS-1 oil pressure is measured or perhaps use a remote oil filter and tap into the filter mount. Just a thought.

Ohmage problem with fuel sender, compatibility problems with the other senders. You can use modern, conventional gauges in a "hidden location" and leave the orig in place. I would not trust old gauges with a new engine. Esp OIL press. But many do that. The modern update, vintage looking, speedo and gauge cluster is $475. You obviously have converted to 12V? What are you doing about that conversion regarding gauges? | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 266 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2011 Posts: 266 | This is an age old problem. What are you doing about that conversion regarding gauges? The gauges are new just the original style, 12 volt v8 gauges but the plug and mounts are the same as the old just in a new gauge. The gauge and cluster are a bit more than $475. Gas gauge and cluster was about $550 for both. So the gauges are new just old style. | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 266 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2011 Posts: 266 | If I understand correctly you are running a Chevy LS-1 engine with a new set of stock gauges? That is my question (where is that pressure measured)? | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | OK. You can put an adapter, available at most speed shops, on any of 3 spots on LS-1 locations. Behind the intake, left hand side of the timing cover, or above the starter. The adapter has a male M16 x 1.5 thread converting to female 5/8" x 18 UNF thread. You made need an additional fitting to that to match the oil line fitting. I have not done this, but a friend researched it for me. I would ask your local speed shop too. Hope this helps.

Now the(hose) I can't get the correct fittings to tighten them up. The kit i got (autometer) has a plastic hose and the fittings will not hold the hose in. I'm don't know much about fittings ,compression etc... I will go back and do some more in the am. | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,988 Sir Searchalot | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,988 | Unless you are a purist and don't mind oil all over your carpet, buy an aftermarket electric oil press gauge and sender for your year motor and mount gauge on engine or inside cab. As far as the plastic tubing, it is compression fitted, you tighten with the little collar (ferrule, compression ring) in place and it seals. Hopefully. | | |
