But the rear bearing retainer (tailpiece) was broken and removed. After removal, the mainshaft assembly seems to have shifted to the rear. I now see some roller bearings loose in the case. Assuming these fell out of the clutch gear assembly, is there a way to sneak them back in without complete disassembly?

I believe it's possible to pull the front bearing retainer and input shaft, and pack the bearing rollers into the back of the input. I don't remember if the cluster gear has to be dropped down into the case or not to allow the input to come out! Jerry

On a SM465 you have to drop the Cluster gear down. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | |
