It usually runs well, but once in a while it will cough and when it does, it jambs the choke shut. Instead of the knob popping out from the dash, the wire in the cable will kink near the carb. I have thought of a way to hook up the cable so this won't be an issue, but I also wonder what could be causing this to happen in the first place. The carb was recently rebuilt and I have had issues with the manifolds loosening up on it. When it's not doing this, it runs really well and has a surprising amount of power. It usually happens when the engine is not yet up to full operating temperature, and maybe that's normal, but I thought it might be wise to see of there could be some other problem that needs fixing. When the engine coughs the engine moves and jams the cable? I have seen choke cables that allow the choke butterfly to not fully open or close if the out housing of the choke cable isn't anchored at both ends.

The question is Why is it doing this in the first place and is it a symptom of a problem with the engine or is the cough just normal? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,248 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,248 | Don't know that a "cough" on the engine is normal, but can't figure why it bends or moves the cable. Sounds like the engine pops back through the carb. maybe it is enough of a pop through the carb that it moves the choke plate.

It still does its popping thing, but I cut an inch off thoke cable and put in a short piece of small chain so when it moves the choke plate now it doesn't bend the cable and the air flowing through the carb pulls it back open.
