I have a 1946 GMC/Chevy 1/2 Ton.
I have original floor boards and an original cab.
I purchased the truck in pieces so I have not seen how it goes together.

Question 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a large rather square piece that clearly sets down on the floor
like a tunnel or tranny cover. This piece fits nicely.

Next there is a more rectangular piece that goes on the lower portion
of the fire wall. All bolt hole line up nicely.

These are the two main floor pieces. I'm not worried about all the little
pedal stuff.

Each piece individually lines up nicely. You can clearly see each bolt hole.

Both piece nicely fit to each other when not in the truck.

My issue is that when in the truck the lower lip of the firewall piece
is a little over an inch away from the front lip of the large main floor piece.

clearly they were meant to go together. I'm wondering if there
is a rubber seal or a brace that I am missing to fill in this gab.

I will try to get pictures later today.

Question 2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
How does the hood stay on?
I feel I am missing a metal dowel that would run through the center of the two
hood pieces. It looks like the cab has a place for a metal dowel to sit and then have
some type of fastener over it.

I have no idea... I have not seen such a thing. I am just looking at what I have
and making a guess as to how it could be fastened.

Send me an email and I'll send you some photos. The hood hinge interlocks. No center pin. Each end of the hood hinge sticks out about an inch and fits into the curved center piece at the front and a small bracket at the cab. The floor I don't know. The bottom overlaps the sloped firewall portion. ewwirth@aol.com

Question 1. I have not ever seen a rubber seal or brace in a parts list but it would not hurt if you feel the need to make your own.

Question 2. You need a dowel pin.

If your truck came in pieces these are the least of your worries right now.

Send me an email and I will send you picture's of the parts that you should have. The hood half's slide together in the middle not what people would call a hinge today but that's what it is, replacements are available from various vendors.

Kirk,
The 1929 - 1954 Chevrolet MASTER PARTS and ACCESSORIES CATALOG calls it Top Hinge as well as the suppliers that sell the replacement. dance

Name is Gordon...

I am missing the bracket 8.058 and nut 8.064
I have the support 8.015 but I don't know how it goes on the hood.

As for the lest of my worries... not really. I'm only using the body of the original truck. Not having a 46 to look at makes these little things rather hard to figure out.

So I found the bracket on ebay. I still don't see how that hold the hood on. It seems there needs to be a roll pin in the hood and in that bracket. My top hinge is two hooked pieces attached to each side if the hood. These then slide together. One inside the other.

is the a tab broken off my top hing? both ends of my hinges line up flush when the hoods are slid inside each other. There isn't any type of tab on one of them.

Your hinge is broken. The ends should stick under the small strap at the rear and into the hood ornament in the front. One half of the hinge should measure about two inches longer then the other and the same as from firewall to 1" into ornament.

You need a new hinge.

thanks... that covers the hood issue.

The exploded cab view does not show the floor panels.
I will get a picture tonight, to show this gap.

One way to send a PM is to click on the user's name. Up will pop a short menu. One of the selections is for sending a PM.

I WAS WRONG!!! The two top hood hinge pieces "nest" together while the hood side panels use a pin to hold them to the top hood halves.

Be sure that the stamped/molded pins on the ends of the two hood hinge sections are still there, otherwise they will not rotate around the center as you raise the hood.

Jim Carter has some of these reproduction hinges.

My apologies.

Sorry for the miscommunication.

We established my hood hinge is broken and missing the tabs or pns that go into the front brace and under the rear bracket.

I found a new hood hinge and a new rear bracket online. Is this Jim Cater a forum sponsor?

Jim Carter is great... he is cheaper then anywhere else I have found parts.

Here are images of my floor.

All of the bolt holes line up. Even the ones that are 2" away from each other. Its like my floor panel is 2" short.

So another member (ewwirth) was wonderful and sent me pictures of his floor with a tape measure in them.

His center main floor panel is 20" long to the top of the lip.
Mine is 18.5" long to the top of the lip.

Apparently, there we different size opening in different years.

Thanks guys, I will be adding 1.5" to my floor panel this weekend.

Thank you so much for taking the time to send me all the pictures.

Hope the show was fun. I don't think I could get much farther from Pierce and still be in Colorado. I'm 65 miles east of Pueblo.
