Here's the newest Chevrolet Overhaul manual that's been converted to a pdf. file.
It's free for stovebolter's to download.
Stovebolt member Brad Allen in Utah has allowed me to use his Four Speed Synchro-Mesh Overhaul filmstrip slides. The filmstrip slides are better quality than scanning photos from the actual manual. I have the actual manual. Brad has the filmstrip.
My Thanks to Brad !
The filmstrip was put out by GM Chevrolet. It was produced by a company named Jam Handy, from Detroit in 1948.
After downloading Brad's filmstrip photo's.
Each photo had to be re-sized to 600 pixels wide. They still needed a lot of cleanup work. Scratches & artifacts had to be removed. I also digitally color-ized the Jam Handy filmstrip leader pages & the last page just to add a little pizzaz. Included are the front & rear cover pages of the actual manual. I digitally re-stored the dirty worn covers making them look like new. The end result is pretty darn good in my opinion.
I sent Keith Hardy this manual a few years ago. But it was the scanned version from my actual manual.
This version is the new & improved version.
This is my pdf. file that I made. It's not to be sold by anyone else. It's here FREE to stovebolter's. It's for your personal library.
I sent Brad a master copy pdf. by direct email today.
You can view & or download this pdf. file at my Google Cloud Storage space.
Download it Below:
I'd like to hear some opinions.

1954 3600 A big help to many on the Bolt Now cruising in The Passing Lane
> Hey George and Brad - Thanks for collaborating on the project. It looks great.
> George - The Google cloud storage is the perfect solution for making your manuals easy for us to obtain. They're helping me build up a decent library. The coloring is pretty cool. I believe that you added some color to one of the manuals that you sent to me. I hope that everyone understands and appreciates the hours of time, effort, and dedication that you have put into producing the manuals. Ol' manuals are like ol' trucks ... bring 'em back alive!
Thanks,
- Lonnie
- Lonnie My '54 3104 Photos that I have shared on Stovebolt via PhotoBucket are no longer available. Please contact me if you want a photo from an old post. lonniecook [at] aol [dot] com. I sold my '54 3104 12/12/2017, but I still visit Stovebolt.
OLD STUFF ... houses, furniture, cars, wine ... I love it all
Yes sir ree, wonderful stuff. And most of that stuff has been out of the reach of most of us. I don't go to many swap meets any more and when I was going those vintage manuals and other literature was priced way out of reach for a guy like me. I had down loaded a lot of Brads stuff by screen printing each page then cropping it in Photo Shop before I saved it, needless to say it took me half a day to get one of the film strips into my reference file on the confuser.
Been traveling so just had a chance to review, looks great looking forward to many more, the holiday delayed me on your stick but I will mail it today.
I was planning on re-bearing my SM420 next summer as a preventive maintenance measure as the trans is making some noises when idling. This is sure to be some good help.
I just found this. Thanks George & Brad. George, you put quite a bit of work in to this , it looks great and I truly appreciate it. I was having no luck online & I didn't find this the 1st time I did a Stovebolt search, but I found it now & THANKS again. Mark
Many many thanks George , I have an SM420 waiting for me to change a worn gear , I have been delaying that job due to insufficient info , but you have sorted that procedure for me now
A big Thank You to you and Brad for making this possible.

George and Company, I mean everyone who participated in the improvement and safe retention of this rare document! The good Lord made the full package when he made you. It is a joy to see results of your effort. Truly a job well done and one that is immensely appreciated by myself and each and everyone of us that has, in the past, suffered from the lack of critical information. Then after nearly giving up, a blessing is found right in our path, here on the Stovebolt. Can't thank you enough! You certainly deserve a brand new Bowtie. Thank you very much. John Hatfield.
I found that a few months ago. It was sure a big help when I rebuilt my SM420 recently. It was my first transmission rebuild and I don't think I could have done it without those slides. I found them much more useful than reading the manual.
Don't pay no mind to that whirrin' sound, she uses a little oil but outsida' that she's cherry.
