JUST MY 2 cents make sure the high ride height is what you are looking for. I purchased one of the kits to do this and after about 2 months of work I decided that was not the look i was looking for.

That's why I don't like the kits. 1: they're expensive. 2: The ride height is too tall.

I found a guy with a running S-10 longbox that I think would be a good candidate. One question item that I've read conflicting reports on: some say that I need to raise the height of the bed relative to the cab when mounted on the S-10 frame. If so, doesn't this make the fenders sit higher above the wheels? I don't really want to lower the fenders on the bed, because it has the stamping that parallels the contour of the fender and it would also look strange. For those of you that have done the swap, how did you deal with this, or is it a non issue?

People deal with this in different ways. It all depends how low you put the body on the frame, as well.

You can raise the bed 2" and lower the fenders on the bed, but this is not my favorite. It sounds like you have a 54-early 55 bed if yours has the contour on the bed side.

What we've always done with the S-10 swap (done about 5 now) is put the bed in the factory location and raise the bed floor. You only lose about 4" of bed floor in most cases, and it works out just fine.

I don't like the look of a raised bed, they don't look right in my opinion, and you can't do it without lowering the fenders on the bed sides.

Thanks, Colin. I'm beginning to get my arms around this. I believe that if I put my bed on the frame at a "stock" height (I'm looking into buying pre made mounts) then I may only need to lose 2" in bed depth. The "dropped" version they advertise sits cab 2" lower and would require the 4". And yes, my truck is a '54 longbox, which I will be sectioning to make a shortbox.

My truck started as a long box as well, and I sectioned the box 9.5". I did mine a little differently though in how I sectioned it.

I saw a 51 last weekend that used the EZ chassis swap kit, the same one that is higher over the frame. The mounts are very well made and look very easy to do, with exception of the rad support which made the truck use a very tiny rad and could have easily used a much larger radiator.

I didn't use a swap kit because of the cost, and because I would rather put the body where I want it than where someone else figured it should go. To each their own though, and that's why each one is different.

My dad's is a '52 on an S-10 frame with a 454, and mine is the 4th or 5th we've done. Feel free to send me a PM or email with any questions you have and I'll do my best to answer.

For anyone interested, I have posted a build link for my frame swap. Granted it is slow, but it is making progress.

Well,almost exactly 4 years after tearing my truck apart, I got it back on the road last Friday. There is still quite a bit to be done, but it now drives like a modern truck/car. The LM7 engine has tons of torque for a vehicle that, I'm guessing weighs less than 3,500#, power steering and brakes are nice to have and eventually I plan on putting in air conditioning as well. For now I'd just like to put some miles on it.

Nice job Lorb, congrat's on getting it on the road. I'm probably on the same schedule until retirement as are many others.

On the other post, a 454 on an S10 frame huh? Reckon Pop ever gets to 20% throttle? I don't know how he keeps the tires from spinning all the time. Good for conversation though.
