Right is right, even if everyone is against it, and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it. - William Penn | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | Shine a bright light on the subject to see screw threads. On 55.2 a bolt comes in from firewall side to pull the hinge bracket up tight to firewall/body. I do not think that bright light from the firewall side side (either side - in the cab or in the engine compartment sides of the firewall) will help to see the subject on a 55-1st truck? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 224 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 224 | The cab and sheet metal instruction manual sect 1 sheet 35.00 refers to it as hinge pillar reinforcement ,I'm guessing IT is in the hinge pocket....there is no threads in the hole , no sign of a nut being welded anywhere, ,no bolt hole through the firewall . the bolt or nut could never be serviced .

My 1954 3104 has holes but no captive nuts (and no sign that captive nuts are missing).
My 1954/55 GMC COE has a captive nut in the bottom hinge pocket (it has no pocket for the upper hinge).
Go figure?

Probably used to locate the pocket in the welding jig. I see no other need for it in the "Advance Design" of things. That's typically what unexplained or otherwise useless holes or notches were used for. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

Now after more investigation and removing a bucket of bondo from the cowl I'm sure the door was open and was backed into something very hard . I think the reason for the bolt & nut was a bad attempt to adjust the door to close which didn't work , he had cut a hole in the kick panel to put the nut on ....now I almost have the cowl installed....
