thanks to Tim's Trucks website: my block# is 3733950 and head# is 3836850, serial number is W540002869. And thanks to Jim Carter, I have green engine paint in the mail. I have the head off and figured I would paint as I put things back together. There has been a lot of oil, mud, and dirt/rust on parts, so I am using a puddy knife and wire brush on a drill to clean parts before reassemble. I still don't know if I can get it running, but figured to paint parts. what is proper method? how many coats? is a primer needed with engine paint?

I didn't use primer on mine because, I didn't want to wait for it to dry for a week, wasn't sure about some sort of reaction etc, all you get from carter is the color no primer. I used a foam brush to apply it.

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks.
Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.

Scrap and wire brush the heavy stuff off, then use a degreaser to rid the block and head of trapped oils. After that step I wipe things down with lacquer thinner just to make sure things are really clean.

All of the "engine" paints I've used have come in quart cans and I've painted with a brush...they flow out great and look like they were sprayed when dry. One coat has worked for me most of the time, but no harm in putting on a second. I also paint after the engine is fully assembled with all the parts that get painted the engine color.

Good luck!
