The tachometer I am looking at is calibrated for a "std pt ign, 2 IMP/rev, 6 volt pos or neg grd".
They also have them for 1 & 3 IMP/rev, which one should I use?

Use the 3 impulse per rev item. It takes 2 turns of the crankshaft to make 1 turn of the distributor so the 6 cylinder distributor will open the points 3 times every crankshaft turn. The tach signal comes off the distributor side connection of the coil.
