I just found out the VIN on the title does not match the VIN thats in on the cab.
What other locations can I look to see if the VIN matches?

FP,
Back in the day, the used the number on the block, just behind the distributor. Where in Spring are you? I'm off Louetta and Champions.

I just rebuilt the engine and replaced the block. I don't think the vin will match.

I will be at the Hot Rod show in Old Town Spring this weekend. I'm off of Rayford Sawdust

Around 1955 GM started adding the long VIN numbers to the frames and cabs. Before that, the engine serial number was used. With out original engine, you are at the mercy of the DMV and Highway Patrol inspection center. The numbers on the cab indicate build number, size, and factory location, nothing to do with the VIN, unless someone at one time wrote the build number in for the VIN, all the states didn't work the same.

Take the original block with you if you still have it.

I just had the engine block replaced. I believe it says LAS525272

According to some websites it means it's a 53 truck made in Missouri.

The engine serial number is different to the vehicle serial number. I believe that your engine is a 1953 passenger car engine. (Tim Lederman is the engine number expert. He may give better information.)

L = 1953 Model Year
A = Passenger Car
S = Engine built at Tonawanda, NY engine plant with RPO 313 and RPO 324
525272 (minus 1,001) = the 52,4274th engine built at the plant

RPO 313 = Powerglide
RPO 324 = Hydrolic Steering (power steering)

The 1953 passenger car Powerglide engine was different to 1953 truck engines:
235.5 cu in, instead of 216 cu in in 3100 truck
Full pressure lubrication vs spray oiler in 3100 truck
Hydrolic lifters instead of solid lifters in 3100 truck

Advertised max engine performance:
GBHP = 115 @ 3600 RPM
NBHP = 108 @ 3600 RPM
G Torque = 200 ft lb @ 2000 RPM
N Torque = 196.5 ft lb @ 1000 RPM

I believe that the valve cover was held to the head by two acorn nuts on top. The 1954 valve cover had four slots on top and was held to the head by four screws.

If you still have your original block and that number is indeed the one on your title, keep it. That may make the process easier getting it re-titled. Every state has a process to resolve your issue, you just need to call them to find out what hoops you need to jump through.

Thank you for that excellent break down!

I am in Texas, I will need a bill of sale from the shop that replaced the block stating so. Then I have to go to the county tax office and fill out a change title vin form.

Where is the VIN on the frame located? It most likely won't match either of the others but I would like to know.

there was no vin on a 54 frame, that didn't start until after the 55 2nd series, and then it was put on the top frame rail near the steering box, and it matched the door tag vehicle ID number
