Using the plastic two wire plug(red/white) I ran the the red wire to the bat side of the alternator and I ran another lead from the battery side of the alt to the top of the original voltage regulator after disconnecting the remaining wires from the regulator. My question is what to do with the white wire? Any help would be great | | |
#97020 09/06/2006 3:54 PM | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 586 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 586 | The white wire is the "signal" wire.Run that to the ignition switch so that it has 12 volts to it when the engine is running.The red wire can bridge over to the output lead(terminal marked BATT on alt).Run a 10 gage wire directly to the positive side of the battery.That's your charge line.I put a piece of 14 gage fusible link wire at the alternator termination for saftey sake.You might have to put a diode in line(on white wire)if the engine doesn't shut off when you turn the key off.Hope this helps!

Does your '59 have a idiot light in the dash? If you want to retain this light, it would serve as the 'diode', or resistance in your excite/white wire to prevent run-on. Someone should have an exact diagram for this lash-up..
