Anyone have pictures of the windlace retainer for a 48 AD. They are screwed on around the door opening. Any description would also be helpful as I am going to attempt to make a set, since I doubt if I will ever find any originals in useable condition locally.

Carl,

Here are the pictures. Basically you have a front and back for each side. Where they come together under the headliner bow is where the unique little connector piece goes. It covers the splice and goes up to blend in with the fixed headliner bow. All trucks so equipped come with a hole in the dash on both sides that you have to stick a screwdriver through to get at one of the screws located deep in the crease.

Since it doesn't look like these pieces can be feasibly fabricated by me, I purchased a set from Brad Allen. If you are looking for hard to find parts for these trucks, do not hesitate to deal with Brad. He is very knowledgeable and eager to help you out.

Just got the 48 windlace retainers from Brad Allen. He wasn't exaggerating we he said that they would not be easily fabricated! We are lucky to have guys like Brad who salvage staff like this. BTW, are the screws that hold this on clutch head, and if so, what style of head and thread?

Carl interestingly enough they are standard straight heads. See replacements here classicparts.com item# 03-291

Thanks Brad. Now that you mention it, I do recall seeing those at Classic Parts. BTW the retainers that you sent me are in better shape than I was expecting!

Glad to hear you like them, I usually don't salvage them because they are such a pain to remove. Last two trucks I parted were 47-48 and so I thought I should grab them just in case, glad I did!

I normally wouldn't bother with this much detail. I bought this truck (early 49) in pieces with the intention of throwing it together and selling it. Then I ran into this site and contracted a lethal dose of restorationitis. Thanks a lot guys!

Jim Carter Truck Parts offers a set that are clutch-head. Were they used as well in certain applications, or is JC's retainer screw set incorrect?

What about the screws that hold the center headliner retainer?
