What I have: Stock 52 1/2 ton with a 4 speed and stock torque tube rear end. What I have done: Cleaned about 20 pounds of dirt from the trans, replaced the transmission fluid, Rebuilt the rear trans mount. What I have is a LOT of loose in the drive line, and a LOT of whine in all gears. Now I have a vibration under moderate load at about 35-40 MPH. Wheels and tires are balanced. Where to start looking for my trouble? Inside the ball and torque tube, U joint? Inside the trans? Or in the diff? I do have another trans if I need it...but that sucker is heavy and awkward to move around. I can do it but I don't want to if I don't need to. Any suggestions or should I just start and see what I have?

| | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | It is very common for the U'joint attaching bolts to come loose giving you a vibration.
There is also a very common problem I see. The front of the torque tube where the bell slides becomes worn, as does the inside of the part of the bell that slides on the torque tube. In this case the vibration smooths out on hard acceleration as the torque tube lifts up in the front putting the U'joint back in line.
