on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 872 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 872 | I have some rotted out brake lines and I would rather have them CNC bent then try and do it myself.
Anyone have a lead on a shop in the NE (touching PA) that can duplicate a line I send them?
No, vendors don't have the lines I need (G506) | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | With the now easy to get copper nickel brake line you can more easily do it your self, no reason not to.
I really look forward to making from scratch and duplicating lines lately. It's easy, fun, and very satisfying yet still challenging enough to stay interested trying to do an even better job on the next one.

A good set of flare tools is north of $100. Benders and pliers, as well as 'armor' also adds to the cost. Normally I'm all over the 'do it yourself' thing... but this could be a small side business as there is no good, ready source of commercial grade G506/G508 brake lines... so having a CNC pattern on file means that I can sell them, make a small profit and maybe branch out into fuel lines (again, not readily available) for these trucks.
I know of ONE place.. in MI. Looking for something closer to home.

As to your actual question, sorry, I don't know of a vendor that does this in your area. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 | i have my own tools for line bending and flaring. if youd like id come see you and help make them if that would help. i need to get up that way soon anyway. your call | | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 872 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 872 | Thanks for the offer, but again, the long term goal is to have a product to sell to other G506/G508 truck owners. I would never accept a hand bent brake line from a vendor unless it was balls on perfect fit. And for a one off, that my be doable. But I need at least two myself, I could probably sell 5 right off the bat (e-bay).
Now say 10 other owners want that line.... now what? That's 17 lines that all have to be dead on correct.
There are ZERO complete fuel line kits for G506/G508 trucks. There is one source for G506 brake kits (and its intermittently available, and so far my experience with it sucks) and no one is selling fuel line kits.
Like the decals I had made... it may be a small market but there is a chance to provide other owners with a much needed part. And if I do it it will be with my name on it, and it will be the best I can produce. I don't think hand bent lines meet that goal.

I really do appreciate the offer. I found a shop and should be able to get OEM style lines made for the old warhorses. That's my goal... not only get myself a set, but make them available for other G506/G508 owners so they can get their trucks on the road. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,418 ODSS Lawman | | ODSS Lawman Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,418 | Mike Come down to Winchester in a couple weeks and we can bend beer cans.... They were the original supplier that the vendor got the tubes from. They re-bent me a new set off the originals I had. Since I had their set to show them the difference it was quite obvious that something was not right.
They are also duplicating a set of fuel lines for my G506. 4 lines, stone guards and fittings for $130. Not a bad deal.
If anyone else has a G506 and wants fuel lines call Classic Tube and speak to Tim. I'm not sure if they are going to add the pattern to their inventory. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 56 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 56 | I got my stainless brake line set from inline tube. The rear brake lines where reproduced from a crappy example I bent up by hand (I needed a custom set because of my 1982 3/4 brake conversion on the rear axle). It looked like a child did it when I did it. InlineTube smoothed out the unintentional bends my lines had. The ones I got back were very nice. The flaring on some of them wasn't that great, but stainless is also difficult to flare. I'm still alive and the lines don't leak, so all is well. www.inlinetube.com.They can reproduce any brake line you send them 1000 times and they will all be the same CNC bent. They did a pretty good job. They were kind of tough to deal with though. In the end it worked out. BEWARE - open your box and make sure everything is there. If you are missing anything, they will charge you for it after a period of time. It does say that all on the OUTSIDE of the box, so it's my fault even though I didn't know what was missing. If I needed a set again, I wouldn't be opposed to dealing with them. | | |
