As I don't have a 1/2 ton around to compare to... are the front hood emblems the same on a COE as on the 1/2-tons?
Also, two of my COE's have the 'regular' Chevrolet emblems on the side, the 3rd COE (48) has Loadmaster under the Chevrolet. Was it a different model or just trim variation?

I do not know about other years, but in 1954, the big truck front hood emblem was different from the smaller trucks.

The 48 has the shorter wheelbase, the others are the longer wheelbase, not that it matters necessarily.

Cheers! 1. The COE front emblem in 1948 was different from other 1948 truck front emblems. 2. The single Thriftmaster or Loadmaster side emblem was used from 1947 through the middle of 1949. From mid-49 through 1952, two emblems were used on both sides of the hood ("CHEVROLET" over "the series number"). The COE front hood emblems are always cast metal, & conform to the shape of the front of the COE Hood. As for the side emblems, they were the same on conventional cab trucks, & Cabover Engine trucks. 1947, & '48 model trucks that had the 235ci. engine (some 1 1/2 ton, & all 2 ton)had "Loadmaster" emblems, & the smaller 1/2 ton thru 1 ton, plus the 1 1/2 ton trucks that came standard with the 216 engine had "Thriftmaster" emblems. As for the smaller series designation numbers, I've seen some '49-'52 model trucks that did have the numbers, & I've seen some that didn't. I had a sneaking suspicion that the front emblem was specific to the COE's. I used to have some 1/2-ton parts around and would have compared them. I wanted to make sure before I sent one of these COE emblems off to get re-chromed. Being cast metal, they are usually badly pitted. Plus after dis-assembling several COE's of both makes, I could see the GMC trucks were sturdier built, than the Chevrolet's. I was a Chevrolet COE guy all the way,(I've owned probably 25 Chevy COE's) until I bought my first GMC (only owned 4 GMC COE's).
