How many Suburban owners are there on these pages? I love the ART DECCO and AD Suburbans. I would like to see more Suburban projects and pics. I will post my 51 project as soon as I master the camera and getting a web page set-up. I am setting up a stock driver but am finding less time to work on it than I thought I would have.

I think if you read the Welcome post in this forum you'll get a pretty good idea. I own two 'New' Design GMC Suburbans.

I guess that's why I posted the question, I have been looking for a profile list that would show how many Burbs and panels are out there with no avail. I have three, one of them is in the restoration stage, one is in the holding pattern and one is stricly for parts. I know that there has been a lot of movement of buying and selling and people who no longer are around these pages anymore. Some of you have "Suburban or Panel" in your displayed name, that helps a little. I would like to confer with others who are in the building stages and was hoping to find someone local. ........g

Hey G, I'm with ya

I put my '50 GMC Suburban in the shop last week for my winter project. As of now I plan to take it down to bare frame and go from there. Mostly stock unless I change my mind along the way. Maybe disc brakes up front with monoleaf springs. Motor is still up in the air, either stock 228/6 or later Chevy 235/6 or mild built 283/8???

Email me if you like

Gone since '99, I had one beautifully-restored (by me!!!) '67 GMC Suburban. It had a 327 4-bbl, auto, ps, pb, 6-hole Rallyes, '69 Blazer front buckets, the two rear seats, liftgate/tailgate, and more! It was one sweet truck! I traded it to a classic dealer in suburban St. Louis, MO in Feb 99 for a '62 Lincoln convertible. He sold it to a guy in western Illinois, and that's the last I've heard of it. It was what I call "forest service green", though it was never a gov't truck. When I repainted it, we did the main body and the interior green, and the window surrounds matte black, and the lower body antracite grey. The original trim came off and on went '92 Chevy truck-style ribbed trim along the beltline, and a '97 GMC Truck tailgate applique over where the original GMC emblem (find one of THOSE!) was. The interior was cloth with green vinyl trim, the inst cluster and glove box door were painted dark metallic green, and it was carpeted front to back. There are two speakers behind the second seat and two in the front doors. It had all-new rubber, weatherstripping, door handles, window cranks, and much more new than I can hope to list. It was really a nice restored truck that I, now regretably, traded off. The lincoln, though a beautiful ragtop, was the epitome of a "money pit"!!!

If you see it, there may still be a sticker in the rear window that says "Oklahoma Street Rod Association". Then, you'll know the truck.

Why don't you just spin either a wheel or the pinion yoke and count the revolutions of the pinion yoke or wheel? You can get close this way, then just find a list of the common GM gear ratios, and you'll know what you have.

GMONIZ -- Be sure to check the Gallery (Link at the top of the page). Look through there and you'll find a few. Better yet, check the Google search engine on the index page ... now that's the ticket to finding stuff here!

Please be sure to send us your write up and pictures for our Featured Projects section of the Tech Tips. We have a panel in there but no Suburbans yet. You don't have to master the camera (that takes a lifetime wink ) just point, shoot and send 'em to us!

Thanks and welcome to the Stovebolt Page!

Regards,
John

you have about 70 burbs,
did not count the panels or canopy express but
from a quick review probably about another 8 or so..

these are what I counted in the gallery, and it was a quick scan but should be a close count...

starting with yr 35 and forward..

I've got two burbs, 51 & 53. The 51 is about 80% done, the 53 about 25% done. Both are 3100, barn doors, front seats, 235, 4spd. That means if I was working on only one I'd be over done by 5%!!!

I have 3, one is in the body work and paint stage and the two others are for sale. I figured it took me 8 years to get to the stage I am at with the 48 GMC and I have the CE waiting to get back to a driver, so no time for the others.

The 51 I started with never got too far off the ground before I found the 48. I just started collecting them and parts for them that I got distracted. I ended up with 4 suburbans and three Canopy expresses, I have been slowly getting rid of them and holding on to just two.

My '52 'burb came out of NY, last registered 45 years ago. The Tarrytown, NY GM Plant build it for the original owner who used it in his hardware store/fishing tackle business. As 2nd owner my plan is to have it on the road within 5 years because of the extensive amount of metal replacement it required (90% finished), the additional project funds needed ($20, 000.00), and the yet to determine varied part-time employment I am going after. It's all good though; tremendous progress has been made in the 17 months I have owned it. V/R, Nick Cavallaro, Bel Air, Maryland

Going to install Scott Danforths front crossmember and take out the Andereggen IFS that has been in there since 03. I would not encourage any burb owners o try the andereggen IFS. It gives you a truck front suspension, Power Front discs and power steering. The downside is that it is impossible to line it up so that it doesn't eat up front tires. cant get enough caster to get the steering wheel to return to center. Wore out front tires after only 5500 miles.Going to sell it come spring

Hey GMONIZ,
Count my '60 Burb 4x4 in! Have had it about 9 months now and posted several pics over the months along with several questions that the Stovebolters have been great in helping answer. I've always been a car nut, but never having any experience with engine rebuilding or body work and with limited local resources, I had to decide what to do with this terrific Burb other than starting it and driving across the creek and around the loop. I've now got new brakes, fuel lines, hoses, and fuel pump, but still requires a squirt of "starter fluid" to start. Next step is carburetor rebuild. It currenly has a great little 327 with 4-barrel carb. I'm not going to try to restore it to original, and just decided to keep the original Neptune Green paint with the patina and bring the upper white down below the windows for a better look and then have it clearcoated gloss. I'm in process of finding someone to put in all new glass except back clamshell door, and then have lined up an upholsterer to do the inside to keep my wife happy and comfortable. Am lined up to coordinate having all 3 done starting Sept 30. Will try to post pics of progress.

We have a 58 with barn doors, a 250-6 with headers and a Holly sitting in front of a T-5. Drove it around the block a few times late last year after 3 (or 4?) years of work. Fixing the over-boosted power steering and soft brakes (had trouble bleeding all the air out of the rear discs) were on my to-do list this past spring so we could put it on the road. Haven't gotten round to it and can't find a good excuse. Other hobbies...

Mine is a 1946 Suburban with clam shell/tailgate. It was built in Janesville, WI and first a school bus in NE Nebraska. After that it was a delivery vehicle for a John Deer dealer. They painted green fenders on the all yellow body.

When I purchased it everything was there except the engine, transmission and seats.

It is staying original except for front disc brakes,
235 engine, turn signals, LED lights and 12 volt system. I will have seats built as I get closer to completion

Currently the body is complete and painted and the engine will be dropped in next week.

I hope to have it on the road in December of this year.
