What brand of bias ply tires did the 1/2 ton A.D. trucks roll off the assembly line with in 1948? Are these being reproduced as a radial to look like a bias ply? Vendor? Thanks.

There wasn't necessarily a specific brand that was used on all trucks, it could vary depending on what was available to a given plant at the time. The most common brands for the time, though, would be Goodyear and Firestone. At this time, there isn't a direct radial truck tire that has a bias "look" or vintage branding. Closest will be to go with a 215/85/16 or 235/85/16, which in a modern radial, still have the "tall and narrow" look that the old bias plys have. Any tire shop can get them, and they are also available from online sources such as Tire Rack. As far as brands for a modern tire go, I'm partial to Michelin or BF Goodrich.

Bought a set of 215/85/R16 for my stock 49 half. When the tire installer saw my stock narrow rims he did not want to install the radials due to the lack of a safety bead and the book recommends a 6 inch rim. Took the truck to a second tire dealer and got the same story. Bought myself a set of 650-16 Firestone Deluxe Champion ias-ply and could not be happier.

Luke,

Some offerings here you can search by year, not cheap, and I have never ordered from them. http://www.cokertire.com/
