I found a fuel filter and a brass looking thing bigger then a fuel filter but the same shape with wires coming out of it. all attached to the fuel line. Notice the gauge reading. Ground the wire & look at the gauge. It should read full one way & empty the other way. I forgot which on that model. It sounds like you have an electric fuel pump under the truck. Follow the wire going to it & see if it hooks to a switch or to the ign switch. It may be working all the time or just for priming.

What a great wiring diagram. Very clear and concise. I wonder why it indicates it is for '47-'53 AD trucks, buts lists the tailight lamps as being #1157.
I have been jabbering on another thread about lamps/bulbs, and I recognize this as a 12 volt unit.
Weren't all the AD trucks 6 volt until 1955. Maybe it was a typo on the authors part.

That's not quite accurate.
On '47 AD's they had a complete fuse panel under the hood with six or eight fuses. By '51 they were using just two fuses under a cover near the regulator. Anything that didn't go through those two used an accessory inline fuse.
This was posted some time ago by Oldsub. I hope it's alright to resurrect it.

I think the '54 fuel tank is the same as my '49.. 17 gallons. Catalog says same tank in '47-'E55.

Make sure the wire from your gauge to the sender is good - run a new wire, if you are not sure.
Try to run a ground wire from the chassis to one of the screws that holds the sender to your gas tank. If that does not solve the problem, your sender is most likely the problem. | | |

I couldn't get a new one but I will, so i soldered the small hole that seem to work. The guage jumps around but at least its not stuck on empty. Thanks for all your help I learned a lot here!! If it's wired in through the ignition switch and works,it'll prime your fuel system when you run out of gas or when you don't drive the ruck for an extended time. Or,you could wire it through a toggle switch and only use it for emergencies.
