It uses a bolt on the bottom, no stud.

The stud on the top side allowed me to "hang" the starter then crawl underneath to put the bolt through the bottom hole. With no stud up top I would have to have held the starter with one hand while I tried pushing a bolt through at the top......and the starter is heavy!!!
