I have kept her close for 6 years now and I don't want any accusations that she is a SMIB (St Mary's inbred). I have finished with some final cosmetic items and tuned/renewed much of the ignition bits and she has made it around the county without much trouble over the last weekend. Goes and stops, turns all tested an passed. I would like to get 60 miles out and 60 miles back to gain some confidence. Talked with Sweet some and I am proposing to drive to Dahlgren VA where I am hopeful that a VA strike package will join and then all proceed somewhere for chow, refreshment and story telling before departing back over the bridge to MD. This weekend (aug 3 or 4) presents itself as an opportunity (at least for me). Can I spark some interest from the brothers? Or at least have a rescue trailer ready in case all hell breaks loose. By the way - Did I say that I would buy the beer. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 402 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 402 | HB,
If it helps, I am just to the point where my inner voice has stopped balking at SWEET's outer voice telling me to "trust your truck." With COSMO's Saginaw installed, I finally feel like I can make a journey of 30 or so and see how it goes.
Would LOVE to do Dahlgren, but this weekend, we're taking a family VA-CA to the northern neck for some fishing and fun (Sam is on leave from the Academy this month).
If I miss this run, I hope you do another and we can repeat the experience. I live about 25 minutes from Dahlgren.
Best of luck,
Jim

Have to figure a way out of a previous commitment for Saturday afternoon, and I need to get issued a liberty card from the SgtMaj, but I need to do the same thing with a certain '60's vintage truck of mine

This is a very important event. I am honored that Brother Hambone has chosen the Old Dominion as his destination for his maiden voyage. For those who have restored a truck, you only get one first run! That run should have Doug grinning from ear to ear!
Here is the tentative plan, I plan to meet Doug and his escort at the base of the Nice bridge, Virginia side at around 11:30ish on Sunday. We will then convoy an additional 15 miles to Fairview Beach for a celebration of Doug's hard work.
Meeting point is on the right side coming FROM Maryland, left side of the bridge if you're already in Va. The more the merrier!!

I believe I heard the sound of that 60's truck in the drive.
Neat. Peg

Weather perfect, temp perfect, wind out of the south west. Charlie in the lead at 48-50 MPH. 1113, 40 miles later over the 301 bridge and picked up Sweet at the Sheetz. 13 MPG after taking 3 gallons to fill. As three ship off to Fairview beach for eats and company. Leisurely lunch, pictures and then off again through the country roads of VA. Sweet departed to the west. As two ship Charlie lead back to MD and HQ. Total of 100-120 miles. The 1/2 Bone made it without much trouble. Heard some new noises that may have been diagnosed to a rear axle (bearing) or a tire that needs balancing. With the truck in the garage, I have some time to research those items, before I move ahead. Thanks to John, Peggy and Sweet for the convoy assist. They gave me the confidence required to get out of the county and across state lines and I think we all enjoyed the trucks and weather. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,418 ODSS Lawman | | ODSS Lawman Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,418 | What a great afternoon. Met up with the guest of honor and his convoy. Went down a nice twisty road to Fairview Beach. After a great lunch and a few frosties, we enjoyed the afternoon! Thanks Doug for a great lunch!
It was a great day to be a bolter!

Probably be 20 minutes, half hour.
It was a fabulous day -- the trucks all ran great (one fresh out of depot rebuild, the other out of I-level maintenance), the weather was unbelievable perfect, the countryside was breathtaking and the company superb. As Sweet said, a great day to be a Stovebolter. We all agreed that the only thing keeping this from being a perfect day was the absence of our brothers.
Stand by for pics ...

We all saw the photo while we were waiting for lunch. Here's a few photos and a video to give you an idea. Just a great day. Just the kind of simple, unwinding cruise we all needed, I think. Thanks Chris and Doug -- what a good time. Peggy will chime in for herself, I'm sure John
