I am working on resurrecting a 1952 GMC 3/4 ton pickup. I have acquired an proper rear set of old bumper brackets and an old bumper, which I plan to bolt on to the old machine. After observing many trucks... which is the proper locaton for the tail lights? Is it in front of the back stake pocket or behind the stake pocket? This old truck is getting to me and I want to put the tail lights where they're supposed to be.

I thank you and appreciate your input.

On every truck I have seen original and correctly restored they are located here.

Learned something new. Looking at Brad's photo of a pre-1954 truck (with a '54 bumper), it looks like the tail light mounting was changed when the bed design changed in 1954. On my '54 3104, the tail light bracket bolts to two diagonally drilled holes on the fender side of the stake pocket.

Some of the diagrams in the 1947-1954 Factory Assembly Manual and in the 1954 Accessories Installation Manual are only for a 1954 truck. This is another example of how confusing it must be to follow this '54 FAM when assembling an earlier model AD.

If you want something different consider SHURE 55 Microphones. I have 2 I am planning to adapt for my 49. Just be a little different smile

I replaced the lenses on my 1954 3100. I was surprised that the new lenses did not fit - the holes were spaced just a bit different. Turns out at some point a PO used 1956 lights instead of the 1954-55. You would never know the difference - the housing, diameter and appearance are identical, but the holes are not the same. Fortunately for me Grumpy's Truck Parts in AZ knew right away what was wrong, and replaced the lenses with the "proper" 56 lenses.
