Looking at Brad's photo of a pre-1954 truck (with a '54 bumper), it looks like the tail light mounting was changed when the bed design changed in 1954. On my '54 3104, the tail light bracket bolts to two diagonally drilled holes on the fender side of the stake pocket. Some of the diagrams in the 1947-1954 Factory Assembly Manual and in the 1954 Accessories Installation Manual are only for a 1954 truck.
