I'm in the process of installing an hei distributor that I got from Langdon's stovebolt, the instructions tell me to set cylinder #1 to 10-18 degrees btdc, there are a few marks on the fly wheel, a circle(not a bb) which Is tdc, right before the circle the are two vertical lines an inch or so apart, then a triangle a few inches before the lines. where exactly is 10-18 degrees, and what are these marks on the fly wheel? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 |
In order to know the meaning of those marks, you need to know the year/engine that the flywheel came out of.
Presumably, it is a 1959 235 truck engine? The timing mark that year is the ball on the flywheel - 5 degrees BTDC - Before Top Dead Center).
