i need some help figuring out whats going on with my fuse block. i installed a ez wire harness got every thing hooked up and it worked fine. then i disconnected the battery to work on my brake lights. when i hooked the battery up m fuel pump was running without the key in the ignition. so i started pulling fuses looking for the problem and when i pulled the heat/ac fuse every thing worked fine again. has anyone ever had a problem like this or tell me what i should be looking for.

you should look for something that happened between disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it, circuits don't get garbled on their own .... OTOH, it may be that some accessory you have is feeding back to the ignition switch, which may mean connections on the ignition switch aren't right? one wire alternator without a light? how long has it "worked fine"? have you run the truck with the new harness?

i have driven the truck with the new harness around the block. my alternator only has a red wire on the big lug and one brown wire coming from the factory plug. i hooked the alt exciter wire to the acc then to the brown alt wire could this be my problem.

yes, if by acc you mean the accessory fuse block or ACC on the ignition switch, the alternator/battery/ACC circuit is being completed, apparently via the heater unit and possibly depending on where alternator rotation stopped - shouldn't that 'factory plug' [DA plug?] have 2 wires? one that connects to a battery source to sense batt volts [usually back to the red wire on the big lug] the other to a dash light and/or the ignition sw via a diode, see here

i looked at the plug wire and there are no broke wires or damage indicating there was another wire. where should i hook the exciter wire on the switch. and do you know the part # for the diode.

if the plug came with the alt, it may have been intended to have the wire added or not depending on the particular applications wiring, every DA plug I've seen has had 2 wires on it ... the excitor needs to be on a switched terminal, like the coil ... no idea of the diode number but I'd expect a parts store to know what you need there, or you could just put an indicator light in line, which serves the same purpose .... someone else here may know more specifics about the diode and wiring

I'd say yes, but it'd be a good idea to consult a local parts store or auto electric shop with details of your alternator model number and other electrical setup

only way i could get it to stop running continuously was to put it on a toggle switch now every thing is working right.
