good morning

Just got my engine (235) back from machine shop.
All in pieces.

When I brought the engine to shop the pistons , crank shaft and cam shaft where installed.

Now all came in a box and when I tried to install the cam shaft and match to crankshaft, I cant find the marks on the fiber gear.
The only two marks I could see are the logo and on the oposit side two faint 00.
How can I get the correct setting to have the timing where it should be.

Don't forget I am a novice and need simple explanations.

This project is my first frame up restauration.

Just a suggestion,,, I would have that fibered gear changed to an aluminum one.The fibered one is not as durable as the aluminum one and just will not last as long. smile

I will second the advice from Mechanic. I had the experience of having the fiber gear let me down and I was not amused.

I recently did a rescue job on a '39 truck ,, the owner was driving to Auckland ( 1000km away) he got 180km in the middle of the night and the engine stopped !! , sounded like running out of fuel ,, only the valves weren't going up and down !
Yep , no teeth on the fibre cam gear ,, this engine had had big $$$ spent on it too ..
wink

The difference between the car and truck 235 is the gear. Cars used fiber, it was quieter (especially after it broke) and the trucks used aluminum, a little noisier but far stronger. I have to admit, I have never seen a 235 with a broken aluminum gear. grin

Thanks guys, I got the message. I ordered both new gears Cam shaft and Crank shaft. Crank shaft gear looked a little damaged from some body trying to pull the balancer .
