Just got this 1951 Chevrolet truck as a project to follow my current 79 Cherokee Chief build. I don't know much about it, and it will be the first pre 70's car I've ever worked on.

As it sits, it has a locked rear wheel. The good news is that the motor isn't locked up. It even as a rebuilder's plate on the side.

I also received a ton of extra body parts for it. I'm planning on selling them off as a means of gathering money to redo the brake lines, rebuild the carburetor, etc. Planning on leaving the truck as is. I like it's current un-restored look.

Welcome to the stovebolt and your journey into the "old" world. Nothing better. Take your time, make a plan and we're here to help you along the way.
Sounds like you have a rear brake lining stuck to the drum. If you have any problem just ask a question in the Driveline Forum and the guys there will be glad to help...... and with all the other forums available there will be no question they can't answer!!!
Good luck, thanks for posting the pictures. I'm sure you'll run in into more of the 'bama guys later.

Welcome to the Stovebolt. You have found the right place for help with your old truck. As Alvin said just ask your question in the appropriate forum. Glad to see more Alabama folks

Sweet. There's a lot of Bama stovebolters, it seems.

I sprayed some WD40 on my rear brake drum a couple days ago. It won't stop raining, and that's putting a huge damper on what I'm able to accomplish.

Monkbonk, if you don't get that drum loose then make a post over in the driveline forum for some tips on getting it off....especially since the shoe is probably stuck to the drum.
Idea's like, hit it a few time with a hammer to perhaps shock it loose.... make sure you back the shoes off as much as you can...and a few more tips the guys can give you. Good luck.

If you do not have a repair manual yet you may want to take a peek here at the online manuals.

Thanks for the link to the shop manuals. I downloaded the one's for my year. They'll come in handy for sure.

While working on unseizing my rear brake drum, I noticed that my cab has the rusted corners that nearly every other cab does. That's something else I'll get to fixing.

I had a fellow stovebolter come and buy some fenders from me. He told me that my truck might be a 3/4 ton. I just ran the vin # on vinbuster. The truck came back as a 1949 3/4 ton from the Atlanta plant.

I was just going off of what the previous owner had told me. Glad I ran the vin. Woot.

While I was at it, I also ran the vin # of my spare cab. It's a 1953 1/2 ton from an unknown plant.
