I probably won't do it but I have been floating the idea of putting a wooden flatbed on my '66. It originally was a longbed stepside but for some unknown and dumb reason the PO took it off and put on some rickety fleetside bed which honestly would be made of nothing but putty if I try to fix it. I plan on putting a stepside back on but until I can find or build one I have been entertaining the idea of making a flatbed. I had a red oak sawed for lumber several years ago for $75 so I won't have much in it and I think it might look ok if I do a good job. Has anyone seen something like this or have any ideas? I have a planer, jointer, tablesaw, router etc so I think I could make something that looks nice but I need some ideas or pictures. Web searches haven't helped much.

Someone may chime in, but Chevy actually offered what was called a "Ranch Style" body on the 3/4 ton long beds. It was a flat bed with wooden gates on the sides. I had one near me when I was growning up that was used by an office furniture store. I would do some searching for a picture, but it was a great looking truck, if you are looking for something to work toward.

Thanks, I'll check into that. Mines a C10 and I don't know how a flatbed would look. Honestly I'll probably just fix the cab up and leave the old ratty bed on until I can get a stepside lined out. But if I see something that looks good I might want to work towards it. I've even floated the idea of a stepside box made of oak with metal fenders but I'm not sure how that would look. My truck is a saddle metallic and I think a dark stained oak would look good.
It's all just cloud talk for now.
