Re-powering my '38 1 1/2 ton dump. Donor engine ID is 'F02071' Casting number '3769716' says it's a '58-'62.(Thanks, GMONIZ!) Any way to narrow it down? Primary questions are 'Water pump-short shaft or adaptor plate?' Where to buy? 'Do I need to swap the flywheels to run the original starter?' I'm reviewing posts to see if I'm missing things...bet I am! Any pokes in the right direction appreciated! I prefer using this adapter plate. You can then use your original water pump and the pulley will be same width as generator/balancer pulleys. Also, that plate locates the fan blade in the optimal position relative to the radiator. Use you original 6v starter with original flywheel, as long as the bolt pattern of flywheel to engine matches. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | 1942-62 only on flywheels for correct fit. 1938-41 have the same bolt pattern but use 3/8" bolts to attach to the crank instead of 7/16" and the pilot hole in the center is also larger. In a pinch the 3/8" bolt holes can be drilled out, the center pilot may not be that big a deal as the three line-up pins keep the flywheel in position. I have seen it done.

I'm assuming that's a factory re-build?
Thanks for the help! (He's unable to get the head numbers today.)

If it's not too much trouble, let me know all three, then when my buddy gets back to his shop, I can get it figured out. Hard to tell till I get it here. I ordered the adapter plate recommended by tclederman "Boltergeist" I should be able to get both waterpump gaskets from FLAPS.

J = 3100-3800 series 235 regular production L = 6000 series T = 9000 series
I am not sure what engine was standard for 6000 and 9000 series (it might depend on the year and would also depend on the options).
