Does anybody have any advice - including don't do it - on using 12-V LED bulbs for turn indicator lights?

You can use them just fine. The problem you might run into is they won't flash. If that is the case you"ll need an electronic flasher. The led lites have a very low draw and it's not enough to activate a standard flasher.

I tried them and discarded the idea. wouldn't work properly, not counting the flasher problem. bought new led complete tailights
and work great. the bulb alone didn't get it

I have a pair of them that I'm going to use - mock-up tests work fine. Quite a bit brighter than the incandescents.

Here is some really good advise on 6 volt LEDs. The same would apply to 12 volts. It's worth reading if you are wanting to try LEDs.

Anybody know where I can buy one of those electronic flashers for 6 volt systems. Before I bought some LED lights from HighSpeed Motors (mentioned above), I called the local NAPA store and they assured me they had them. Unfortunately, when I went to buy one, it turns out they don't. I want to replace all of my turn signal bulbs, so it sounds like I will need an electronic flasher.

Tiny's right. Highspeedmotors is where I bought the 6 volot LED's. They are a direct swap for the 6 volt bulbs in my taillights. I've replacecd all of the rear bulbs, and the LED's are working. But as I understand it, once I replace the front bulbs, the flasher won't work.

you may only need to have one ''regular'' bulb (somewhere in the system) so the flasher can sense the resistance and it should work

6. If you choose to use these 6 Volt LED bulbs to replace all 4 of your Turn signal bulbs, the old style flasher units will not turn the bulbs on and off. There is just not enough current flow to heat up the flasher unit. There are a few ways around this. You can pigtail a single incandesant bulb from each side of the circuit (for example in the trunk, under the dash, or in the tail light housing), or wire in a dropping resistor. As long as there is one of the old type bulbs in the circuit, these LEDs will flash. They will work just fine, with no alterations to your wiring, if they are used for either only front or only rear turn signal bulbs.

Using the type that are bulb replacements won't
work with blue dots, I know, I tried it. Also
try checking in the "tuner" aisle at your local
parts store for electronic flashers.

I used a sealed LED rear turn signal lens with tons of led's in it (45). Looks just like the stock lens for only about $30 per side, including the housing and license plate light. That is what repro lenses and housings cost with regular bulbs!

The other day at LOVE's Truck Stop and Travel America Truck Stop I was looking for a cellphone antennae and saw LED bulbs to fit many different regular sockets and LED flashers for $10.

Hotronics www.hotronicsproducts.com [714]971-8543 makes no load LED flashers $35.00 so you don't have to splice the extra bulb into the wiring. Just got my new Painless Wiring catalog in the mail. they also have no load flashers for use with LED's.
