The wipers have never worked on the 57 (My Dad used rain X and didn't take the truck out if it looked like rain) The original vaccuum motor is in place, however, the fuel pump appears to be a replacement. I understand the original was called a dual action fuel pump that had a vaccuum pump and fitting to run the wipers ? Which is simplier to do, replace the vaccuum system with an electric, or try to find the correct pump then hope the pump works. Is there a way to test ? Your thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

Standard was the wiper motor running off intake manifold vacuum. The port should still be there. Get a new piece of vacuum hose and hook it up that way. Replaced the hose. No Joy ! I also discovered that the control switch or valve was not connected. I ran hose from it's port to the botton port on the motor. Still no joy ! Is the control valve all in one direction and variable for speed ? Or does it have a center off position ? I hear vaccuum hiss when the valve is in a full counter-clock wise position. No wiper motion. A busted diaphram in the motor ?
Steve | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | Sounds like the cable is missing from your switch. It does not take a hose. It is a cable that slides the valve on the motor.
You are going to need to drop the motor to hook up a cable to it. Might as well drop it and you can see where it hooks up. Try moving the dohickey by hand. Hooked to vacuum of course.
If it still doesn't work you can take the motor apart and lube it. I thought there was a tech tip for that but I can't find it. I know it has been discussed before so do a search. | | |
