Sounds like the cable is missing from your switch. It does not take a hose. It is a cable that slides the valve on the motor.

You are going to need to drop the motor to hook up a cable to it. Might as well drop it and you can see where it hooks up. Try moving the dohickey by hand. Hooked to vacuum of course.

If it still doesn't work you can take the motor apart and lube it. I thought there was a tech tip for that but I can't find it. I know it has been discussed before so do a search.
