Is there a trick to removing the hinge pin? I can move the pin about 1/4", there is no rust, they are not bound, I do not see any set screw.

I can't get the pin out of the hinge. | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 684 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 684 | yes, this is what I want to do. I can't get the pin out of the hinge. Sometimes they fall out. and sometimes you have to drill them out. I've built a few of them and just got plain sick and tired of trying to knock them out. I have no torch so I just take the hinge to a friend of mine and he heats it till its Cherry Red and then WHACK. A couple licks with the punch and hammer and they're out. Its well worth the time to use the HEAT. Plus, it makes redrilling the holes for the new pins a lot neater and straighter.
No one has mentioned it and maybe I misunderstood but are you trying to do it without taking the hinge out??? IF so, don't try to kid yourself. Take the hinge out and then have at it. | | | | Joined: May 2013 Posts: 5 New Guy | New Guy Joined: May 2013 Posts: 5 | I did take the hinge out and put it in my vise; although I am sure that there are people out there who would try to do it on the truck.
I did try heat, but I only have a propane torch, certainly didn't turn it red hot. | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | .... I tried it with a small propane torch and mapp gas but it just wasn't enough. Ruined one hinge and that's when I said "no more". I will either get tanks for my new "big torch" kit or have someone heat them up for me. Got to be rosy/cherry red. | | | | Joined: May 2013 Posts: 5 New Guy | New Guy Joined: May 2013 Posts: 5 | | | |
