The coil is 12v with internal resistor and 2 terminals on top marked + and --. The starter is a 12v solenoid type with 2 terminals marked R and S. The distributor has one terminal on the side below the cap. The remote pushbutton starter has 2 wires with alligator clips on each end. And of course the battery is sitting on the floor. coil - to that single wire on side of distributor
one push button clip to batt +
other push button clip to starter S
and if it's a fresh rebuild, fire shouldn't be applied until you're ready to run it at moderate RPM for 20 minutes for break-in
Bill | | | | | Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 3,399 Gas Pumper | | Gas Pumper Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 3,399 | Yeah, also use a drill w/ broken screwdriver..remove the dist and get your oil pressure up first. The minus side of the coil is the tachometer connection as well in case you want to monitor your rpm. I would be concerned with two things on a 261.. the oil pressure and making sure oil is getting properly up to the rockers, and water temperature since you want to ensure the steam holes properly lined up. Good luck! I just did this very same thing last week!
